Kirkstall Abbey

Kirkstall Abbey is one of the most complete examples of a Cistercian Abbey in the United Kingdom. The Abbey is free to enter and is within 24 acres of riverside parkland. The area offers a great day out for enjoying history, wildlife and outdoor family fun.

The parkland offers walking trails, sports pitches and open grassland for picnic or informal games. Two health walks run around the abbey parkland and offer great fitness trails for walkers or runners.

There's a visitor centre, children's playground, park and woodland trail to explore as well as the abbey.

Kirkstall Abbey hosts a varied events programme including the month Kirkstall Abbey deli market, music and theatre events. It also hosts a youth group who may play in a battle of the bands, learn special effects makeup skills, devise a murder mystery play or contribute to an exhibition all in the setting of a gothic abbey.
