Lotherton Hall Bird garden family day out

Situated to the East of Leeds, Lotherton Hall is an Edwardian house and estate, with formal gardens, bird garden, deer park and woodland walks. There is an active events programme with toddler and pre-school events during term time and additional events for all ages in the school holidays.

The House is furnished in a period style with art works and ceramics to complement. The gardesn closest to the house have been restored to a traditional style and boas penty of places to sit and enjoy the views.

The bird garden is home to over 200 species, including many rare and endangered species. The walkthrough South African aviary allows you to join the birds in there environment. Vutures, parrots, macaws, hornbill and owls are just a few of the species found.

To fully enjoy the estate including the deer park there are a series of trails and walks. the walks vary in length and dificulty and cover woodland, the deer park and farm paddocks.

Other facilities include children's playground, cafe and gift shop.

New At Lotherton

The new attraction Lotherton Wildlife World, which will see our current Bird Garden go through a series of significant developments. 
 
In spring 2017 we’ll be opening a new visitor centre and adding to our animal collection with the introduction of penguins, flamingos and forest mammals. Lotherton Wildlife World will tell the story of our natural heritage, while drawing on the travels of previous owners of the estate, the Gascoignes. 
 
What's it all about?
Come and get to know our animals, how they live and what we can do to protect their future. Our new Wildlife World will contribute to conservation initiatives and aim to raise awareness of endangered animals and plant species through an exciting learning and events programme.
 

Lotherton Hall Opening Times & Prices

Summer (March to October)
House, café, shop and bird garden: 10:00 to 17:00
Estate gates : 07:30 to 20:00.

Winter (November - February)
House, café, shop and bird garden: 10:00 to 16:00 with last entry at 15:15.
Estate gates : 07:30 to 17:00.

Closed:

Accessibility

Disabled parking spaces are available
House: The main entrance has a ramp for wheelchairs. The first floor is not accessibleto wheelchairs.
Gardens: approx 90% of the gardens are accessible by wheelchairs. The historic Edwardian garden is not directly accessible but there are numerous vantage points.
Some of the pathways are gravel which can be difficult to manouver chairs on. The bird garden is full accassible, although many paths are naturally sloped.

The boundary trail is accessible in fair weather, the orchard and Captain's Wood paths are all weather surfaces.

Enjoy glass crafts, a forge, good food, wood craft, pottery, children’s activities, donkeys, dog shows, live entertainment including ‘The 3 Yorkshireteers’ and the ‘Lotherton Cake Challenge’ hosted by Sandy from ‘the Great British Bake Off 2015’.
