Royal Armouries - Leeds
The Royal Armouries in Leeds displays the National Collection of Arms and Armour. The impressive collection is spread across six galleries. The collection is housed in a multi-storey purpose built building on the Leeds Waterfront. The themed galleries include;
War Gallery: showing weapons of war throughout the ages from early warfare through to 19th century.
Hunting Gallery: the history and evolution of hunting from prehistoric times to present day Olympic sports.
Tournament Gallery: explores the spectactor sports of the time from the areans, to the weapons to the safety equipment and armour.
Oriental Gallery: Explores the weapons of Asia by region with an emphasis on the mounted archer, who has dominated the war of the region.
Self-Defence Gallery: this gallery explores a variety of areas from the impact of gun crime, to civil forces to travel protection.
Peace. Farewell to Arms: This area explores the moves by some individuals, groups and nations away from weapons and warfare.
Daily presentations are given explaining the use of historical weapons and allowing visitors to handle some items. There are interacive displays to allow visitors a hands-on experience and during school holidays the outdoor arena is utilised for visitors to watch the weapons being used by experts. (Arena displays often have a small extra charge.)

Drop off point located near to the museum. Four manual wheelchairs are available for visitor use. Motorised chairs and scooters are permitted in the museum. Accessible toilet facilities are located throughout the museum. Portable folding seats are positioned throughout the galleries.

Spring Into Action
27th May to 4th June
Charge down to the Royal Armouries Museum this half term and burn off some energy with our action-packed events programme. There’ll be plenty of hands-on and have-a-go activities as well as the chance to try our challenging military-style junior assault course. Our experienced interpretation team will be demonstrating martial arts and sword skills plus recounting dramatic tales of tournaments and sporting daring-do.
Wild West Weekend
17th & 18th June
Grab your Stetsons and mosey on down to the museum for a rootin’, tootin’, sharpshootin’ weekend and gain a real insight into the life and times of cowboys in the American West. Visitors can join in a packed programme of live demonstrations, object handling sessions, museum trails and talks.
