Helmsley Walled Garden
Helmsley Walled Garden is a 5 acre walled garden which has been restored to its Victorian heyday. The mission of Helmsley Walled Garden is to conserve and restore the fabric of this historically important walled garden and to return it to full productivity. The garden was originally employed to provide fruit, vegetables and fresh flowers for the Duncombe estate house. Now the restoration is aiding in the conservation of old, rare and endangered garden plants, using environmentally sustainable and where possible fully organic techniques.
The garden has a Victorian glasshouse, a hot border, a peony garden, a cottage flower garden and more. The gardeners are primarily volunteers, including many who are part of a therapeutic gardening programming, allowing people with disabilities to seek benefit through the social and restorative qualities of gardening.
