Harewood House is over 250 years old, and is still a home as well as one of Yorkshire's premier attractions. The state rooms within Harewood are open to the public and contain fine furnishings and art works spanning the decades. Below Stairs is also open and demonstrated the lives and requirments of this who served in the "big House".

Gardens
The grounds and gardens of Harewood House were largely the creation of "Capability" Brown. The gardens are divided into several areas, from the formal layout of the terrace directly behind the house to the exotic Himalayan Gardens, and the kitchen walled garden.

Harewood Bird Garden
The bird garden is home to a variety of exotic species of birds housed in sympathetic surroundings. macaw, penquin, owls, cranes and flamingos are among the birds to be seen.

There are several walks around the grounds and gardens, and also an extensive events programme with many special family events throughout the year.

Harewood House Accessibility:

Harewood House and Gardens are situated on a natural slope, all footpaths are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs however people accompaning chair users will need to be strong and able pushers. Sensible shoes are recommended.

There are 6 steps into the main entrance of Harewood, a wheelchair lift is available, it however cannot accommodate electric wheelchairs. A courtesy wheelchair is available for use in the house.

Below Stairs:
Is fully wheelchair accessible, with lifts and ramps in place. The lift cannot accommodate electric wheelchairs, a courtesy wheelchair is available.

Service Dogs are permitted, except in the bird garden, a staff member can guide visitors around the bird garden. Other dogs are welcome at Harewood provided they are kept on a short lead, they are not permitted in the bird garden or adventure playground.

Location / How To Find Harewood House

The hour is located in the village of Harewood just a short drive from Leeds city centre, just off the A61 Leeds to Harrogate road. LS17 9LQ is the recommended postcode for Sat Nav users.

Bus

Two bus routes run past the entrance to Harewood, and people arriving by bus are entitled to a 50% discount on a freedom entry prices.
The No 36 bus route between Harrogate and Leeds stops close to the entrance
The No 923 runs between Otley and Tadcaster via Wetherby.

Events at Harewood House

Steam Fair

3rd & 4th Sept
Full sized and miniature steam engines, fairground organs, vintage cars and commercials, classic motorcycles, vintage tractors and a full arena programme including the Stannage International Stunt Show and Ridgeside Falconry. This family day out has plenty for the children, with both old time and modern funfairs, quad rides, a climbing wall and giant inflatable slide.  Also performing live on stage will be the Crazy Bears.  These six bears will entertain the whole family with singing, dancing and magic tricks at various times throughout the day.
