Bankfield is steeped in history and has been a museum since 1887. Set in the attractive surroundings of Akroyd Park, at the centre of Akroydon model village conservation area, this Victorian mansion was the home of local mill owner, philanthropist and MP, Colonel Edward Akroyd.
The collections within the Bankfield Museum date from ancient Egypt to the 21st century and include a wide and diverse range of products, with a particular emphasis on local history especially the lcoal textile trade. There is also a toy gallery, jewellry from around the world and a section on military history.
