North Yorkshire Moors National Park Attractions
Helmsley Walled Garden is a 5 acre walled garden which has been restored to its Victorian heyday. The garden was originally employed to provide fruit, vegetables and fresh flowers for the Duncombe estate house.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a preserved heritage railway traveling from Pickering across the North Yorkshire Moors to Whitby on the Coast. Every effort has been made to preserve the authenticity of the line and the rural stations on route. Steam and heritage diesel trains provide the regular services on the track.
Duncombe Park Gardens and Parklands are a seasonal attraction found close to Helmsley in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The gardens which open from Easter to the end of August comprise of over 35 acres of 18th Century green garden
Rievaulx Terrace is one the finest examples of an Eighteenth Century Victorian landscape garden in existence. The gardens near Helmsley offer spectacular views over the nearby Cistertian Rievaulx Abbey, please not it s not possible to access the Abbey from the Terraces.
Helmsley Castle has an extensive and varied history. Hands on exhibitions and an audio tour explain the castles history as a medieval fortress, a luxurious Tudor Mansion, a civil war stronghold and a victorian ruin.
Rievaulx Abbey is one of the most complete of Englands Abbey ruins. The Abbey is an English Heritage property and is located close to Helmsley in the North York Moors, a peaceful and tranquil valley.
