Richmond is an historic market town with a long and vibrant history. The town has a picturesque setting along the banks of the River Swale. Richmond Castle is one of the main attractions, it stands overlooking the town and the river. Other attractions to see include the Green Howards Regimental Museum, Easby Abbey, which is a short and pleasant riverside walk from the town. Along the walk sits a tribute the Richmond Drummer Boy and the legend of the tunnel between Richmond and Easby Abbey.

There is a daily market in the Market Hall located on the market square, plus a regular outdoor market; every Saturday, in the square. Every third Saturday of the month the Richmond Farmers market takes place.

Richmond also has a packed calendar of events and activities including the Richmond Meet, Richmond Live and the Richmond Walking and Book Festival.
