Jorvik Viking Festival

20th to 26th February
The Annual Viking Invasion of York, now they come in peace! From lectures and talks to skirmishes and the finale battle, learn about viking lifestyle, interaction with anglo-saxons and skills of the time. Range of events suitable for all ages.

March

York Literature Festival

16th to 30th March
The festival promotes the arts in York, with an emphasis on literature, spoken word and poetry. We also feature music, comedy, cinema and theatre in our programme. The festival takes place annually in March.
This year is largest programme ever delivered, with more than 60 events in two weeks! The York Literature Festival HUB, an additional programme of events run by writing groups in the local area, all taking place within York Theatre Royal. We hope that HUB will provide an extra dimension to the overall festival, showcasing some of the talent that York and the surrounding area has to offer.

Festival Of Vintage

22nd & 23rd April
Celebrate living from the 1930's to 60's at The Festival of Vintage held at York Racecourse. With live entertainment, collectors corner, Make do and mend inspired area, vintage hair and make up, dancing and much more.

July

Great Yorkshire Fringe

21st July to 13th August
The Parliament Street Family Feastival will present a summer season of family shows and live music, while retaining the street food stalls, each now with their own “garden space” on the Parliament Street village green. 

September

York Food Festival

22nd September to 1st October
The festival includes the usual plethora of foodie events with demontsrations, markets, tastings, dinners and to keep with the theme includes art, photography and poetry competitions.

Halloween at York Maze

25th October to 1st November
Get Lost in the haunted Treasure Hunt Maze, head out on the ghostmania ride, do the halloween finder fortune maze or the spooky trail. Add in some face painting, a haunted house and The Phantomime and it's a truly spooky family fun day out.

Hallowscream

17th, 18th, 23rd - 25th, 30th, 31st October & 1st November
“Hallowscream” at York maze is a live scare event, with 5 separate haunted attractions for visitors to brave. Hallowscream is based on a farm where a terrible tragedy occurred back in 1873, and the restless souls who died on that night return each Halloween to torment those who dare to visit. Illuminating York

29th October to 1st November
The theme for the 2014 festival is Leading Lights, uncovering the rich history and future of innovation and discovery in the city of York. Illuminating York will spread right across the city centre with 12 brand new illuminating artworks.

December

St Nicholas Market, York

27th November to 21st December
The St Nicholas Fair is returning for an exteneded period, parliament street will be lined with usual snug wooden huts, a carousel will entertain and an ever changing programme of themed market stalls throughout the Fair will keep you coming back for more. Themes include specialty stalls featuring Food, Sparkles and Toys.

York Chocolate Festival

3rd to 6th April
Tastings, workshops, talks, market, kitchen demonstrations, discussions and dinner all with one theme: Chocolate. Plenty fo games and chocolate fun for younger visitors.
