Whitby, Yorkshire Coast - Visitor Guide

Whitby is an ancient harbour town on the heritage coast, is situated close to highest cliffs in the country and surrounded by the rugged and beautiful North Yorkshire Moors. The town is divided into the east and West sides, split by the River Esk, which can crossed by the swing bridge. The old town was where Captain James Cook was an apprentice and learned seamanship, the old abbey is run by English heritage and has a visitor centre. it is also a good base for visiting surrounding villages on the heritage coast.
Whitby offers all the usual seaside attractions plus one of the UK's most stunnign gothic abbeys and most famous sons.
