Aysgarth - Yorkshire Dales - North Yorkshire

Aysgarth is a pretty and petite village in Wensleydale, most famous for Aysgarth Falls, a triple flight waterfall located just outside the village.  The name Aysgarth comes from Old Norse and means "the space in the oak trees".  The village has several accommodation options for visitors, as well as an inn and cafe for meals. St Andrew's Church in the village was substantially rebuilt in 1536 and again in 1866, of particular interest within the church are fittings rescued from Jervaulx Abbey during the dissolution of the monastries.

The Falls are managed by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority which has a visitor centre located between the higher falls and the Freeholders Woods Nature Reserve on the northern banks of the River Ure. There are a number of walks along the banks of the river and in the surrounding countryside.
