Heeley City Farm
A Free Community-Run Urban Oasis in South Sheffield

Main farmyard and seating at Heeley City Farm in the heart of Sheffield.

Updated on 8th August 2026

Located just one mile south of Sheffield city centre near the Antiques Quarter, Heeley City Farm is a friendly, community-run urban farm and environmental charity that has been welcoming visitors since 1981.

Completely free to visit, this compact green oasis combines rare breed farm animals, wildlife gardens, an under-8s play park, and a peat-free garden plant nursery with valuable community learning and youth training projects.

Highlights / What to See 🐐

Despite its compact city footprint, Heeley City Farm is packed with things to see and explore across its terraced site:

  • Meet the Farm Animals: Say hello to Pygmy goats, Golden Guernsey goats, Tamworth pigs, Jacob sheep, ponies, and peacocks in the outdoor paddocks.
  • Small Animal House: Get up close with smaller resident creatures, including rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and a bearded dragon lizard.
  • Under-8s Playground: A safe, enclosed children's play area with swings and climbing frames where younger kids can burn off energy.
  • Organic Wildlife & Dementia Gardens: Take a tranquil walk through food growing spaces, wild gardens, and the Valerie Gardenβ€”a quiet sensory space created for visitors living with dementia.
  • Peat-Free Garden Centre: Pick up seasonal bedding plants, shrubs, peat-free compost, and garden tools to support the farm's charitable work.
