Situated in Worsbrough, just two miles south of Barnsley town centre, Wigfield Farm is an active working farm and animal care base run by Barnsley College.
Open to the public 360 days a year, the farm serves both as an educational base for land-based students and as a budget-friendly community attraction where families can meet rare breed livestock, exotic species, meerkats, and small pets along easy-to-navigate walkways.

Wigfield Farm offers a surprisingly diverse collection of domestic and exotic species across its paddocks and indoor handling rooms:
- Livestock Paddocks: Meet pigs, sheep, goats, cows, Shetland ponies, donkeys, alpacas, and poultry. Bags of approved animal feed can be purchased at reception.
- Meerkat Enclosure: Watch the popular resident mob of meerkats exploring their indoor and outdoor sand enclosures.
- Rodent & Reptile House: Visit the sheltered indoor rooms housing rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, snakes, lizards, and amphibians.
- Animal Keeper Experiences: Bookable hands-on experiences for children and young people wanting a glimpse behind the scenes at caring for farm animals.
- Combine with Worsbrough Mill Country Park: Located right next to Worsbrough Mill Reservoir & Country Park, making it easy to pair your visit with a scenic woodland walk.
The Farm Cafe β
Serves hot drinks, light lunches, sandwiches, paninis, and sweet treats. An outdoor seating area overlooks the farm, and picnic tables are available nearby for visitors bringing their own food.

Dogs are not permitted on the farm premises (registered assistance dogs permitted only).
