Tucked away behind a wrought-iron fence in the village of Aysgarth in Wensleydale, Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden is a truly unique hidden gem in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Created between 1906 and 1914 by local gamekeeper Frank Sayer Graham, the garden was designed and built by the renowned York firm Backhouse & Son as an elaborate "walk-through grotto". Enormous limestone bouldersโ€”some towering up to 8 metres highโ€”were transported to the site from nearby moorland to construct an otherworldly landscape filled with alpine succulents, winding gravel paths, and quiet seating niches.

Today, the garden holds Grade II Listed Building status to protect its historic structure and offers visitors a delightful, atmospheric stopover when exploring nearby Aysgarth Falls.
