Built in the early 1620s for George Calvert—the founder of Maryland, USA—Kiplin Hall & Gardens is a distinctive Jacobean country house nestled in the Vale of Mowbray between Richmond and Northallerton. Surrounded by 90 acres of tranquil gardens, woodland trails, and a picturesque lake, the hall offers a captivating journey through four centuries of family heritage.
Over its 400-year history, Kiplin was owned and modified by four interconnected families: the Calverts, CROWES, Carpenter, and Talbot families. Today, it operates as an independent charitable trust, filled to the brim with personal treasures, portraits, Victorian servant quarters, and immersive heritage displays.

Located in the hall's historic wings, the tea room serves delicious soups, light lunches, home-baked cakes, and scones made daily using fresh vegetables, herbs, and fruit grown directly in Kiplin's own Walled Garden.

Opening Times
Gardens & Tearoom open 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Fri-Wed). Hall opens 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Closed Thursdays).
