Doncaster Balloon Festival 2026 Everything You Need To Know

A Sky Full of Giants

The stars of the show are, of course, the hot air balloons. From classic spheres to unique "special shapes," pilots from across the country gather to showcase these gentle giants.
Pro Tip: Balloon launches are entirely dependent on the weather (especially wind speeds!). Launches typically take place in the early evening when the air is calmest. Even if the balloons can't take flight, the "tethered displays"—where they stay on the ground but fully inflated—are just as impressive to see up close.

  • ✨ The Night Glow & FireworksThe absolute highlight for many is the Saturday Night Glow. As dusk falls, the balloons are lined up and their burners are fired in sync to music, turning them into giant, glowing lanterns. It is a truly magical sight that usually culminates in a spectacular fireworks display to close the evening.
  • 🎢 More Than Just Balloons
    • Giant Funfair: One of the largest travelling fairs in the region, featuring everything from white-knuckle rides to traditional carousels.
    • Live EntertainmentThe main stage hosts local bands and performers throughout the afternoon and evening.
    • Festival FoodFrom Yorkshire hog roasts to international street food and craft ales, you won’t go hungry.
    • Trade StallsA chance to support local makers and pick up some unique gifts.
