Top Tips For Your Wildlights Visit
To make the most of your magical evening at RSPB Old Moor, here are our top tips for families:
- 🔦 Bring a Torch: While the lanterns are beautiful, the paths between them can be very dark! A handheld torch or headlamp is essential for safely navigating the reserve with little ones.
- 🎟️ Book Early: This is a bi-annual highlight and tickets almost always sell out in advance. Check the RSPB Events Page to secure your spot.
- 🥾 Wear Sturdy Footwear: Even though the paths are pushchair and wheelchair friendly, they are still nature trails. March can be muddy, so wellies or walking boots are your best bet.
- 🧤 Wrap Up Warm: The Dearne Valley can get quite breezy once the sun goes down. Layers are key, and don’t forget hats and gloves for the kids while they are doing their crafts!
- 🐾 Leave Four-Legged Friends at Home: To protect the sensitive local wildlife on the reserve, dogs (except assistance dogs) are not allowed on the trail or in the buildings.
- ☕ Food and Drink: The café usually stays open late for the event, serving hot food, cakes, and their famous hot chocolate. It’s the perfect way to warm up after completing the trail.
