Bridlington Kite Festival, people watching kites flying in Bridlington, Yorkshire on a sunny day

Posted on 1st March 2026

Imagine the North Sea breeze, the sound of crashing waves, and a sky crowded with color. That is the Bridlington Kite Festival—one of the UK's most spectacular free events, held annually on the dramatic cliffs of Sewerby Fields. This years 2 day event is on 16th and 17th May 2026.

This isn't just about a few diamond kites, there will be giant bears, slithering snakes and octopus all operated by professional kite operators. Alongside the professional demonstrations, the popular parachuting teddy bear drops will be back.

Bridlington Kite Festival 2026 Highlights

  • Giant Kites:Massive kites in fun and colourful shapes and styles including whales, bears, and mythical creatures.
  • Have-A-Go Kites: Visitors can also have-a-go with loaned kites during supervised sessions, or buy their own from the kite stalls.
  • Stunt Displays: Professional teams performing choreographed routines to music.
  • Children's Entertainment: A selection of inflatable assault courses for all ages to enjoy for free.

Beyond The Kites

You’ll find a variety of local food stalls serving everything from classic Yorkshire fish and chips to artisanal ice cream. There are usually fairground rides for the little ones and plenty of space for a picnic.

There is something deeply grounding (ironically) about watching kites. It’s a low-tech, high-joy celebration of nature and physics. Whether you’re an amateur enthusiast, looking for a brilliant photo op or just a great free family day out the Bridlington Kite Festival is a breath of fresh air—literally.
