Tank with an explosion behind it at Yorkshire Wartime 2026, a family friendly military show in Doncaster, Yorkshire this August 2026

Updated 10th May 2026

From the thunder of tank engines to the crackle of swing music, Yorkshire is set to become a living time capsule this summer. Whether you’re a die-hard history buff or a family looking for an action-packed day out, the Yorkshire Wartime 2026 is the ultimate destination.

As the North of England’s largest military show, this isn't just an exhibition—it’s 30 acres of immersive history brought to life. Here is everything you need to know about what’s happening this August at Yorkshire Wartime

🤫 Friday 7th: The "Quiet Day"

If you prefer a more relaxed pace, Friday is the best-kept secret of the event. While the weekend is all about the "boom," Friday is all about the people.

  • Chance To Chat: Without the roar of the main arena battles or heavy vehicle maneuvers, the atmosphere is much calmer. It’s the perfect time to chat with the re-enactors in their camps or talk to the specialists running the stalls and displays. They have a wealth of knowledge and are usually much more available for a long-form yarn about history.
  • Beat The Crowds: Enjoy a first look at the trade village and living history displays with fewer queues and plenty of space to take photographs.
  • Up Close and Personal: t’s a brilliant day for serious historians or photographers who want to get up close to the equipment and vehicles without the weekend bustle.

💥 High-Octane Action: The Main Arena

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August

The heart of the event is the main arena, where history gets loud. If you like your weekends with a side of adrenaline, this is where you’ll want to be.

  • Explosive Battle Re-enactments: On Saturday and Sunday, witness spectacular large-scale battles featuring Allied and Axis forces. With expert pyrotechnics and authentic tactics, it’s a sensory experience that puts you right in the middle of the action.
  • Tanks In Motion: It’s not every day you see a 30-ton beast on the move. Watch tanks and heavy artillery firing and maneuvering across the terrain.
  • Military Vehicle Parade: From rumbling trucks to nimble jeeps, see over 400 genuine military vehicles take a lap of honor.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family & Kids: History in Play

Yorkshire Wartime Experience is designed to be "hands-on," ensuring that history is accessible for the younger generation. There's plenty for kids to try in the kids zone.

  • Kids Entertainment and Activities: From airsoft shooting ranges to axe throwing, birds of prey to a spitfire simulator, army cadets and regular army activities.
  • Living History Camps: With over 70 display groups, families can wander through authentic WWI and WWII camps to see how soldiers and civilians really lived, cooked, and slept.
  • Action Stations: There are Cold War aircraft cockpits to explore as well as 100's of military vehicles, including tanks which they can get up close to.

👗 The Home Front: Style & Nostalgia

For those who prefer the "Keep Calm and Carry On" spirit to the frontline grit, there is plenty of 1940s charm to discover.

  • Vintage Entertainment: Enjoy live singing and dancing throughout the weekend. Whether you're a pro at the Lindy Hop or just want to tap your toes to the classics, the atmosphere is electric.
  • The Trade Stalls: Perfect for collectors! Browse dozens of stalls selling military collectables, original vintage clothing, books, and unique craft items. Over 150 traders will be onsite.
