The award-winning Magical Christmas Experience at Mother Shiptonβs returns to Knaresborough for 2026, transforming ancient woodland along the River Nidd into a twinkling winter village.
Voted one of the finest festive family experiences in North Yorkshire, the event combines personal family visits with Santa in his cosy grotto, festive activity packs, storytelling tipis, and winter walks past the world-famous Petrifying Well.
Running on selected dates from Saturday 28th November through to Christmas Eve, Thursday 24th December 2026, entry is structured into pre-booked 2.5-hour timed sessions centered around your booked Santa visit slot.

Key highlights across the Christmas Village and woodland trail include:
- Personal Family Santa Grotto Visit: Meet Father Christmas in his authentic grotto; every child with a Santa Experience Ticket receives a special soft toy gift to take home.
- Chief Elf & Greetings Tent: Meet Chief Elf Chestnut and entertaining elves who welcome families and build excitement before entering the grotto.
- Storytelling Tipi with Holly Berry: Gather around internal fires inside a twinkling tipi to hear festive tales from costumed storytellers.
- Reindeer Food Station & Owl Mail: Children can blend their own bag of magic reindeer food for Christmas Eve and post letters to Santa at the Snowy Owl Sorting Office.
- Christmas Wishing Trees: Hang personal handwritten hopes and dreams on illuminated woodland wishing trees.
- Festive Treats & Marshmallow Toasting: Enjoy deluxe hot chocolates, warm mince pies, and giant marshmallow toasting in heated tipis and log gazebos.
- Historic Cave & Petrifying Well: Take a illuminated winter stroll along the riverbank to view the historic Petrifying Well and Mother Shipton's Cave (access subject to weather/ground conditions).

Tickets & Booking Rules
PRE-BOOKING MANDATORYTwo tickets are required per family group: A Group Admission Ticket (car/pedestrian Β£44βΒ£46) plus a Santa Experience Ticket (Β£18βΒ£19 per child aged 0β12). No walk-ins allowed.

Pram & Wheelchair Access
Smooth paths connect the main entrance, parking, and Christmas Village. Covered buggy parking is provided before reaching steps near the Cave/Petrifying Well area.
Dog Policy Notice
Due to event layout and limited site space, dogs are strictly NOT permitted during the Christmas event (registered guide/assistance dogs excepted).
Visitor Tip
Arrive 15 minutes before your booked ticket time slot. Seeing Santa takes place at the very start of your booking slot, after which you have plenty of time to explore the rest of the Christmas Village and woodland.

Located just off the A59 at High Bridge in Knaresborough. On-site car parking is included when purchasing a Car Group Admission ticket.
