The Santa Express at Whistlestop Valley returns to Clayton West near Huddersfield for Christmas 2026, offering festive steam railway trips through the West Yorkshire countryside to meet Santa Claus.

Families board the decorated narrow-gauge steam train for a scenic round-trip ride from Clayton West Station to Shelley Station, complete with grotto visits, gifts, elf shows, outdoor play areas, and dedicated relaxed SEN sessions.

The Santa Express runs on selected dates from Saturday 21st November to Christmas Eve, Thursday 24th December 2026. The full experience lasts approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, starting and ending at Clayton West Station.

Whistlestop Valley provides dedicated SEN Relaxed Santa Express Sessions tailored specifically for neurodivergent children, adults, and visitors with sensory sensitivities:

• Reduced Capacity & Noise: Lower music volumes, reduced tannoy announcements, and fewer total passengers per train departure.
• Gentle Elf Interactions: Performers adapt their style to offer quiet, friendly greetings without sudden loud surprises.
• Sensory-Friendly Space: More time allowed during the Santa Grotto visit to ensure a stress-free environment.
• 2026 SEN Dates: Available on early morning departures on selected weekends in November and December. Advance online booking is required.
