A spectacular international blockbuster exhibition is charging into Yorkshire this summer.

Opening at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds from 26 June to 1 November 2026, Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World brings a world-class collection of rare artefacts to the UK for the very first time.

If you are looking for an inspiring, educational, and high-energy family day out over the summer holidays, this major cultural event deserves a spot right at the top of your list.

More To The Mongols Than Meets The Eye

While Genghis Khan is traditionally remembered solely for military conquests and infamous tyranny, this bold exhibition sets out to challenge common stereotypes.

Instead, visitors will explore the incredibly complex story of how a penniless, exiled adventurer built the largest contiguous land empire in human history—and how the resulting Pax Mongolica (Mongol Peace) accelerated global advancements in science, medicine, cartography, and technology that laid the foundations for our modern world.

The touring gallery features 248 rare objects dating from the 1st to the 14th centuries, on loan directly from Mongolia’s national collections.

Exhibition Hightlights

  • Treasures of the Steppes: Incredible ancient weapons, bows, intricately designed saddles, jewels, ceramics, and inscribed coins that have never previously left Mongolia.
  • The Power of Women: Discover the untold stories of women who held immense political and ruling power under Mongol rule, including Genghis Khan’s daughter, Alaqai Beki.
  • Interactive Family Displays: The exhibition features hands-on games, touchscreens, videos, and detailed dioramas perfectly suited for young explorers to learn through play.
  • Daily Live Arena Shows: To complement the exhibition over the summer holidays, the Royal Armouries will be hosting spectacular, daily Mongolian horse shows outside in the central arena.
